Rudridge Ravens 9 - 3 Camberley Colts

On a day perfect for football (and spectators) the Ravens were quickly into their passing game. The first goal came form a good through ball by Olly to Josh who slipped the ball wide of the keeper.

The second goal was a good individual effort by Rob. He took the bal in the center of the field and then beat the defender to put it past the keeper (2-0)

The third goal was a "poachers" effort. A poor back pass from their defender was intecepted by Rob who calmly beat the keeper. (3-0)

Camberley did not give up and got their first goal against the run of play. The ball bounced off Alex who had played well in goal and fell to a Camberley player who put it in the open net. After the break the Ravens continued to exert pressure and it was not long before goal number 4 came. A looping shot from Luke on the edge of the box beat their keeper who was left stranded. (4-1)

The next goal came from a penalty awarded to Camberley. Although it was difficult to tell why the penalty had been given the Ravens players accepted the refs decision and they converted to make it 4-2.

The Ravens spurned on by the penanlty hit back straight away. A good pass from Tom H in midfield found Tom B who hit a great shot from outside the box which hit the post. Josh was on hand to put in the rebound. (5-2).

Ravens scored again from the kick-off with Ramps putting the ball throught to Rob who hit a fine shot for number 6. (6-2)

Goal 7 came from another fine shot from Tom B just outside the box. This time he beat the keeper for a well deserved goal. (7-2)

Again, Camerley did not give up and managed to pull one back down the right hand side of the pitch. (7-3)

Goal 8 came from an excellent throw by Josh who found Ramps on the run who controlled the ball well to beat the keeper . (8-3)

The final goal came from Rob who beat the defender for pace and then beat the keeper for another fine effort. (9-3).

Overall another fine team display with great passing and attacking play balanced with some tight defence at the back.

Effort Rob.

CPR Maruaders 0 - 4 Rudridge Ravens

After a dramatic rush on the M3 all the players (and Parents) arrived in Lightwater and not Bagshot as some first thought.

At the kick off the ravens went straight for it which resulted in 5 corners in the first 10 minutes. Then there was the first call of “Shaaaape”… something the boys missed last week.

Alex makes a very good save in goal and from the resulting throw out puts James Martin through, who takes the ball all the way to CPR’s goal and sets up Luke Mason for the first goal. A well worked Team effort. 1-0 Ravens.

A Tom Burrell throw in puts Luke in again to score his second of the game. 2-0 Ravens.

A well worked ball on the right and Robert Colfer crossed for Luke to get his hatrick. 3-0 Ravens.

CPR miss two golden chances to bring the match closer, but Ravens lead at half time. George Allen goes in Goal for the second half after good work in the first half central defence. Soon after kick off, great work down the right by Dan, who crosses for Luke to get the 4th and another great Team goal. 4-0 Ravens.

We were so close to number 5 when Aaron volleyed a sweet cross from a corner, only to strike a defender to go out for another corner. A clean sheet for the defence this week. Well done Alex , George, Tom R, Tom H, James E, Ryan C and Robert C in the second half. The Midfield were more in command this week and there was more passion shown to win the ball, finished with a great performance by Luke M to score all four goals.

This week’s effort award went to Tom R for good work at right back.
This week’s Man of the match was Tom B for his all round performance.

This week’s report by Dave Richards.

Rudridge Ravens 1 - 7 Manor Colts Spitfires

This proved to be a difficult match for the Ravens as the two top teams in the table came together. In the first half the Spitfires had the cold wind behind them which made it difficult for the Ravens to clear the ball at times. The game started at a fast pace with both teams creating chances.

It was the Spirtfires who got the first goal from a cross on the right. Ravens created three good chances but it was not our day as luck was against us and we failed to finish them off. The Spitfires came back and scored their second in what was end to end stuff . (2-0)

Their third came from a break as their attackers once again got around the back of our defence. After a teamtalk at halftime the Ravens came back with an excellent goal by Josh from far out on the left. (3-1).

At this stage we thought we were going to get back into the game. However, almost immediately the Spitfires once again got the better of our defence and scored two quick goals that killed our chances of taking anything from the game.

Goal number 6 came from poor positional play and they again got in behind our defence (6-1). As the game was coming to the end the misery continued and the Spitfires got the seventh and final goal. (7-1). Although it was difficult for the boys they maintained their effort and did not give up.

Graham would have been pround of the spirit and attitude displayed by the boys. It's all to play for as we head into the final games of the season.

Rudridge Ravens 10 - 1 Manor Colts Ospreys

On a wonderful day for soccer the Ravens came away with an emphatic victory. The first goal came from a good throw from Dan who found James M in space who then put the ball wide of the keeper (1-0)

After this the Raven's defence had to work hard to keep the Ospreys out and good tackling by Tom B, Ryan , George and James E kept things tight at the back. Alex also made a fine save from a free kick. The second goal came from a great move from James M who put in a good ball to Dan, the keeper blocked the shot but the ball fell to Rob who hit a screamer of a shot into the back of the net. (2-0)

Goal three came from a wonderfully floated pass from Rob that landed in the path of James M who calmly beat the keeper. The Ravens pressure continued and Tom B hit the bar from a free kick which came back to Rob who put it away for number four.

The second half started well for the Ospreys and their effort was rewarded with an own goal from a corner. Ravens hit back straight away with a cross from James M that found Rob who was in the right spot to put it away. (5-1)

Another quick break down the left from James M released Rob again whose initial shot was blocked but Rob put it away from the rebound (6-1)

A long throw by George caused problems in the Ospreys defence and once again it was that man Rob who got on the end of it to score number 7 (7-1)

Tom H who was playing down the right made a good cross that again fell to Rob who scored number 8 (8-1)

While writing about this goal James M scored number 9. I had to rely on James's dad for a description of the goal. He beat 15 players to do a Brazilian type lob to beat the keeper!!! (9-1)

The final goal came again from James M who followed up well after Rob's initial short had been blacked by their keeper.

Effort Award George.

7 March 2009

Rudridge Ravens 6 - 1 Manor Colts Ospreys

Down into straw hat and banjo territory (well 10 minutes out of Odiham anyway) for the latest Ravens fixture against Manor Colts Ospreys in what will probably be Ravens title winning season.

The game started brightly (as they say in the papers) with early pressure from both teams. The pitch was a little smaller than usual so much of the early play was a little frenetic and bunched in the middle of the pitch. Manor Colts forced a corner and hit the bar and this seemed to prompt Ravens to raise their game. Straightaway, from the resulting goal kick and subsequent enormous throw from George, Ravens went ahead thanks to a good shot from distance by James Martin. Exactly the kind of route 1 approach that would have the managers tearing their hair out if they had any left.

No matter, Ravens were off and away and the second goal came soon after. An accurate through ball from Ollie fed Dan who beat a defender and then the goalkeeper to score a good individual goal.

The third goal also involved the Ollie / Dan combination. A quick throw from Dan down the Manor Colts left set Ollie free who then crossed low into the box. Things then become a little confused. Ollie assured this reporter that he should be credited with the goal but since this would have involved the ball changing direction in mid flight by about 90 degrees it should probably go down as an own goal. Sorry Ollie.

3-0 at half time then and Graham rang the changes for the second period. Off came James's Martin and Evans and the laws-of-physics defying Ollie and on came Robert, Luke and Tom B.

Luke scored a good poachers goal early in the second half and Ravens looked to continuing where they left off. However good work from Manor Colts on their left side saw them score a good goal to make it 4-1. This was unfortunate as Alex in the Raven's goal had been having a very good game. Always in the right position, fearless and with a safe pair of hands he went on to win the effort award.

The final 2 Ravens goals came towards the end of the game, the first a good finish from Josh after battling well to win the ball from an opposition defender and the final goal a volley in from Luke straight from a Robert corner.

As Peter Cook once said, Football is about nothing unless it is about something.

6-1 Ravens. Well done lads ! MOM Arron
Effort Alex

21 February 2009

Rudridge Ravens 5 - 0 Hawley Raider

For once the weather was kind and conditions were perfect for foorball. Early pressure from the Ravens led to a number of corners that created good chances to score. The first goal came from an excellent Tom B corner, with the ball falling to Tom H who struck it well into the box and Luke got on the end of it to score.
The back four kept things tight with Ramps making several good tackles to keep the Raiders out. A long range effort by James M was blocked by thier goalie and nearly crossed the line for number two. Rob came close with a shot that hit the post. The second goal came from a good call by Josh on the left side of the pitch. James M put the ball through to him and Josh calmly beat the keeper with a good shot (2-0).
The third came from James M who had a good game in mid field after Luke threaded the ball through for him to run onto (3-0). Although George did not have much to do for periods of the match he made a great save with his leg to keep the Raiders out. It was only a matter of time before goal number four came after concerted pressure by the Ravens on the Hawley goal.
Rob beat the defender and then placed it past the goalie for goal number four (4-0). Ravens came close soon after with James M hitting the post at one end, quickly followed by a break from Hawley who hit the post at the other end and from the rebound George made a spectacular save to keep a clean sheet.
The final goal of the match was an own goal that was deflected from a shot by Josh.
Overall, another fine performance from the whole team.

Rudridge Ravens 4 - 2 Fleet Spurs Santos

A crisp, bitterly cold morning saw Ravens take on their local rivals Fleet Spurs Santos. We know it was bitterly cold as the ref took 15 minutes to find his whistle. Graham was absent 'at a wedding'. The club are hopeful that the rumoured meeting with representatives from Manchester City will come to nothing. Residents of Oakley Park were grateful in any event.
Back on the pitch Santos were obviously up for this game and it showed in the early exchanges. Ollie's terrier like work rate resulted in a good shot shot just wide after some good work by James M down the right but the Santos defence resisted well.
At the other end the Santos front players combined well to bring the Ravens defence into early action with James E and Ramps marshalling their troops effectively. The action during the initial echanges occuured down the Ravens right not least because of the Rory Delap - like throw ins from The Santos left back. Even stevens for the first 10 minutes then until a super goal from James M put Ravens 1 up. The goal was made by that man Ollie again who beat 5 players in midfield leaving James to crash the ball in from about 15 yards.
Santos carried on pressurising the Ravens goal and 2 corners in quick succession forced George to make some good claims in the Ravens goal. Against the run of play, in fairness, Josh scored the Ravens' second goal after a great cross from Rob. 2-0. Again Santos came back and scored a deserved goal with a great shot from the edge of the area. 2-1.
A lacklustre performance from Ravens in the first half saw Pete lay it on the line at halftime. Those of us who heard his half time team talk will remember it for a long time. There were no teacups thrown or angry exchanges but if you have seen George C Scott in 'Patton; Lust for Glory' talking to his troops prior to the push on Berlin you will have an idea of the scale and dramatic impact. It worked. 2 goals in 2 minutes immediately after the break saw Ravens go 4-1 up. The first was scored by Robert and the second by the consistently effective James Martin. Still Santos did not give up and earned a consolation goal from a corner, headed in to his own net by the unfortunate Ryan. 4-2.
That's how it stayed until the end of a scrappy game, but as Alan Shearer would say 'these are the games that win you the league. Canny lad'.

Rudridge Ravens 6 - 1 Rushmoor Saints

The Ravens started 2009 as they finished 2008 with a fine performance from the whole team. Although both teams started well it was the Ravens who got the first breakthrough.

Rob put the ball through for James M to score the first goal. A period of sustained pressure led to goal number two when the ball fell to Rob in the box who put it in the back of the net (2-0). Ravens were now in full flow with their passing game and it wasn't long before goal number three came our way. A nice ball through from Tom B to Arron allowed Arron to take the ball out wide before putting in a lovely shot to beat the keeper. (3-0) Rushmoor came back with a chance at the other end but fine defending by George and a good save from Alex kept them out. Goal number four came from Rob, who took the ball on the edge of the area and dribbled it through to score. (4-0)

The Ravens midfield was dominant with Tom H, Olly and James M all working hard. It was James M who put another good ball through that split the defense and set Rob free once more to score number five (5-0) Credit to Rushmoor as they did not give up and came back to score a header from close range. (5-1) Ravens capped off a fine performance with goal number six close to the end of the match. Olly put the ball through to Rob who again made no mistake and put it in the back of the net to cap a fine individual effort.

Rowledge Roofers 2 - 6 Rudridge Ravens
Friendly Match

This was a friendly fixture and was billed as a good test for the Ravens as Rowledge are top of the second divison and unbeated all season. The Ravens started well with plenty of movement. It wasn't long before the effort paid off and James M was away down the left and put a great ball through to Rob who glided past the defence to score our first goal.

The second came soon after from a corner by Tom B. The ball came to Olly at the front post and he flicked it past the keeper to make it 2-0. The work rate in the first half was excellent from all the boys and Alex made some good saves and the defence of Tom H, George, James E, Ryan and Josh worked hard to deny Rowledge any opportunities.

After half time Rowledge came back and managed to pull a goal back. (2-1). Rowledge maintained their momentum and manged to pull back a second goal from a corner (2-2). Ravens responded well and got third goal after a run from Rob put Luke through who finished well. (3-2).

Our 4th goal was a beauty. Rob laid the ball back to Tom B who was just outside th box. Tom B hit it first time and the ball screamed into the back of the net. By now the Ravens were in complete control and were rewarded with a 5th goal by Luke after a through ball from Rob. The icing on the cake came towards the end where Luke controlled the ball well and and lobbed te goal keeper for number 6. It was a very impressive performance by the whole team with wonderful movement and tremendous effort to deny the opposition any time on the ball.

The chairman as also impressed with the catering arrangements (Free mugs of tea and coffee served on a tray) and is highly motivated to have similar arrangemets for our home games.

Badshot Lea 0 - 4 Rudridge Ravens
Away match played at home

The Ravens started well, intercepting the ball from kick off and scoring within 5 minutes, with a great early goal by James M. The game soon settled down with play in the Badshot half. Luke shot wide, followed by James hitting the post. Was this going to be one of those matches ! Not so, Luke broke through the defence and slammed the ball against the post, Rob followed up with the kill, 2-0. It wasn’t long before James M threaded the ball beautifully to Rob to score, setting the score at half-time to 3-0.

The Ravens started the second half strong, but suffered a bit when the passing play stopped. However, when called, the defence were solid and reliable, with dominating play by James E, a fantastic, tenacious performance from Arran and excellent play from Tom B, marking, their ace striker out of the game. Badshot’s goalkeeper kept the score line down, but couldn’t save Oli’s shot from an impossible angle. 4-0 the final score.

A solid captains performance from Ramps and confident play from Tom H.

Effort award - James M . Man of the match to Tom B for his great marking.

Well done lads.

29 November 2008

Farnborough Athletic Hawks 1 - 3 Rudridge Ravens

On a cold morning and on a wide heavy pitch the Ravens made the better start and got into their stride quickly.

It was Luke who got the first goal from close range after some close passing by Dan and James M. It was Luke again who put through a great ball for Rob who was only denied by a great save by the Hawk's keeper who had a very good game.

A good shot from Dan was again saved by their keeper but from the resulting rebound James M put the ball in the top corner for our second goal. (2-0) An excellent touch from Dan put James M through for a run down the line. His shot across the goal hit the post but Luke was well positioned to put it away from close range. (3-0).

To their credit Farnborough did not give up and they scored from a breakaway to make it 3-1. Towards the end of the second half the "fatigue factor" started to set in on what was an energy sapping pitch. Our defence remained strong to the end with Tom H, Arron, Rob, Tom R and Ryan all working hard. In the middle Tom B and Olly chased and tackled all game and linked well with the attack.

Although George did not have a busy match in goal he did make one tremendous save to keep the score at 3-1. Overall an excellent performance with some teriffic movement of the ball throughout.

22 November 2008

Manor Colt Spitfires 2 - 3 Rudridge Ravens

Ravens started the game really well dominating most of the play with some good passing moves and all the players contributing well.

It took almost 15 minutes before we made the break through when James M managed to squeeze a shot passed the goal keeper and it didn’t take long before Arron made it 2. It looked as though we were going to run away with it when the 3rd went in but the linesman had a different view to the rest of us and ruled the goal offside.

The Spitfires came back strongly before and after half time with a goal either side of the break setting up a nail biting finish. Ravens were caught out by a very affective 5 man offside trap which limited our attempts goal and Alex made a tremendous save, diving low to his right to keep the score at 2-2.

Eventually Ravens started to get on top again and one excellent shot from James M produce an equally good save from the Spitfires goalie.

With the end in sight after a good passing move Robert found himself through on goal and again the goalie made a good save but this time the ball spilled free and Robert managed to get a toe to it and then push the ball into the empty net for a deserved win to the Ravens.

I was delighted with the football that was played the spirit and commitment that you all showed.

Man of the Match went to James E and the Effort Award went to Tom B.

Rudridge Ravens 6 - 1 Curley Park Rangesr

The Ravens made a slow start to the match and took time to get into their stride. It was Luke who made the breakthrough and scored a towering header at the far post to set the Ravens on their way.

The second goal came from a corner and it was Luke again who looped the ball over the keeper from two yards out. (2-0).

The third goal came through the middle with a clever back flick from Luke putting Rob through who finished well. Curley Park came back with a goal after some good attacking play by them.(3-1) At this point it was pretty even with both sides attacking well. Alex made some important saves and James organised the defence extremely well. There was also some good chasing back from Tom B and James M.

The next goal came from the Ravens with Ramps scoring from a wide angle. (4-1) A good cross from Dan, who had a good game out wide, led to a pass from Ramps to Luke who scored his hat-trick. At the end Rob managed to get his second as the Ravens took complete control of the game and finished much the stronger side.

Rudridge Ravens 7 - 3 Fleet Spurs Santos

After a slow start to the match is not very good conditions it was the Ravens that broke the deadlock. James M put a nice ball through for Rob to put the ball past the keeper. The second goal came from a breakout by the Ravens, Dan passed to James M who put it through to Luke who then laid it off to Rob who scored his second.

It wasn't long before we scored our third goal. Luke played the ball down the line and it was Rob who again got on the end of it to chip the goalie for his third. (3-0) Fleet spurs did not give up and they pulled one back from a corner when the ball fell for one of their players (3-1).

Encouraged by this, Fleet Spurs had their best spell of the match and managed to pull back a second goal after a goal mouth scamble. (3-2) However, it was the Ravens who started to get on top and Dan scored a great individual goal, dribbling the ball up field and keeping his cool to beat the goalie. (4-2)

The floodgates then opened for the Ravens and it was James M who got number five with a close range shot (5-2). Rob scored the next two goals , the first was a chip that beat the goalie and the second came from a James M through ball and a run from half way . (7-2) To the credit of Fleet Spurs they got a consolation goal at the end to make the final score 7-3 to the Ravens.

Although not a vintage Ravens performance the boys played very well in spells and were not deterred by the poor weather conditions on the day.

Rudridge Ravens 3 - 4 Rushmoor Colts

Again this week the Ravens started the match well and it would have been difficult to pick who were the division one side as the Ravens had the best of the early exchanges. Robert came close early on,hitting the cross bar. More pressure led to Arron hitting the post.

During this period the Ravens defence played well with George playing especially well. Alex also made a great save to keep Rushmoor out. Ravens's first goal came from Rob at close range. (1-0 Ravens).

Rushmoor came back with a goal against the run of play (1-1) Rob scored his second goal with a great shot from the edge of the box which went over the head of their keeper (2-1 Ravens) Rushmoor struck back with their second and the game was now a much more even contest. (2-2)

Robert scored his third goal with a grreat dribble past their defenders and a good shot to finish (3-2 Ravens) Rushmoor did not give up and came back with their third goal from a corner after scrappy play. At this point the game could have gone either way but it was Rushmoor who scored the decisive goal slipping through our brave defence.

The whole team should have been proud of their performance against a team ranked two divisions higher.

Rudridge Ravens 5 - 2 Hawley Raiders

After a few minutes of early pressure James M found space down the right to hit a great shot to score the first goal. Hawley came back with a goal from a corner kick but was very much against the run of play.

The second Ravens goal came from a move down the right , James M put the ball across for Oli who made a great run into the box to score. Our third goal came from a ball played through by Josh to Oli' who beat two defenders and skillfully put it past their goalie to score. (3-1)

Soon after the start of the second half Ravens continued to pressure Hawley's goal. All the effort paid off when a cross by Tom B fell to Josh who was well positioned in the box to put it away for our fourth. (4-1)

Hawley again came back with a break away and made it 4-2. Our final goal came from a corner which fell to James Martin who finished it well Once again it was a fine all round team performance with a well organised defence, a competitive midfield and a strong attack.

Rudridge Ravens Colts 4 - 1 Finchampsted Colts

On a beautiful day for football the Ravens looked lively and full of attacking football. The first goal came from some good work from Josh who chased the ball down the line and put in a good cross for Oli to score.

Tom B got goal number two from a well worked corner. The ball came to Tom B outside the box and he hit a solid shot that beat the goalkeeper. (2-0 Ravens) Finchampstead came back against the run of play to score a breakaway goal. (2-1 Ravens)

Ravens continued to put pressure on but could not get the goal they deserved from all the presure. Rob came close with only a great save from their goalie keeping the ball out. Our defence of Tom H, George, Alex and Ryan in the first half and Ramps and Dan coming in during the second period remained solid throughout.

Dan did a great job of bringing the ball out of defence and putting in a great pass to Rob who finished well (3-1 Ravens) Another great pass down the line from Dan put James M away down the right who put the ball across for Luke to score number 4. (4-1 Ravens).

At the end of the match the coahing team of Graham and Pete were pleased with the result and the quality of the Raven's play. Pete was quoted as saying "Fantastic" in the post match interview.

Camberley Town Colts 0 - 6 Rudridge Ravens Colts

The first period of play was scrappy from both sides with neither team dominating play. Ryan made some important tackles at the back during this period and Ravens got caught in the off-side trap on a number of occasions. The first half finished 0-0.

The second half was a different story and it was not long before the Ravens scoed their first goal. It came from a good through ball by Luke to Rob who controlled the ball well to score. Ravens kept up the pressure with James M just going wide. Soon after, Oli was brought down in the box which led to a penanlty which James E took well to put Ravens 2-0 up. More pressure from the Raven's attack led to Rob putting Luke through for goal number 3.

Goal number 4 was a great piece of teamwork from the Raven's who were in full flow at this stage. Tom H in mid field released Luke down the right who put a great ball through to Robert who beat the defender to make it 4-0.

Our 5th goal came from a run down the left by James M who put the ball across the goal to score. The final goal was a solo effort by Rob who took the ball from half way, weaved his way past the defence to score number number 6 and to make it a hat-trick of goals for him.

Rudridge Ravens 4 - 2 Manor Colts

Soon after the kick off, Manor Colts scored the first goal of the match. Rudridge had a further set back when Luke hurt his ankle and had to be substituted with Tom R coming in at the back and Tom H moving up to midfield. Rudridge found their stride and James M scored a great goal with a header from a cross by Tom B. Our second goal came soon after from a well taken corner by Tom B and Arron vollied it home.

Manor Colts didn't give up and only some good defensive work by James M, who chased back well, managed to kept them out. During this period the club Chairman was spotted sitting on the park bench after a heavy night out!!!

Good pressure from Luke, who worked tirelessly up front, put Robert through for our third goal. Manor Colts hit straight back to make it 3-2. Luke again led the attack and made a nice turn past the defender and his shot came back off the bar. Our final goal came from a cross by James M which was put in the net by a Manior Colts defender for an own goal.

Rushmoor Saints 3 - 3 Rudridge Ravens

Most of the early pressure came from Rushmoor but good defensive work by George and the rest of the defense kept them out. Ravens scored the first goal after a good run ny Oli put Rob through who finished well. Rushmoor came back immediately and equalised. Rushmoor scored again to make it 2-1 to them. Ravens created a good chance to even the score but a good shot from Arron went wide.

Ravens started the second half well and were rewarded with a goal by Josh. Rushmoor scored their third goal after George had kept them out with some great saves. Ravens managed to even the score after excellent poaching by Rob from a free kick which led to Rob's second goal of the match.

The final score of 3-3 was a fair reflection of an even contest.

The awards went to George as the "Man of Match" Ryan gained the "Effort Award".

Finchampsted Colts 1 - 3 Rudridge Ravens

The match was played in perfect conditions on a fine pitch which suited the Ravens style of play. The first Ravens attack led to a good shot from James M which was set up by good work from Arron. A good pass from Tom B put Rob through who forced a corner. At the other end, Alex made a good tackle to keep Finchampstead out. More pressure from the Ravens saw a shot from James M saved and also a long range effot from Tom B kept out.

A rare attack from Finchampstead led to a good save from George in goal. A tremedous shot from Ryan, well outside the area hit the bar and gave the team renewed confidence. Finchampsead broke away again and scored but the goal was disallowed for off-side. Another good build up by Ravens created a chance for Ramps who took the opportuntiy well and put the ball to the left of the goalie. A great shot from Tom B was pushed over the bar by their goalie. At this point we could have been up by 4 if it wasn't for a fine display be the home sides goalie. Against the run of play they pulled one back with a snap shot inside the box. The Ravens defence remained strong with good tackling by George, Tom H and Dan turning defence into attack. Josh put a nice pass through to release Rob who kept calm to put it away for our second. Great work from Luke up front led to a chance for Josh who put the ball into to the top corner of the net.

Ravens finished well on top, playing good football right to the end. MOM was Ollie while the Effort award was presented to Tom B

The Badshot Lea keeper made more good saves to keep the Ravens out. Against the run of play Badshot Lea re-took the lead and the first half ended 3-1.

Ravens started the second half well but another goal by Badshot Lea meant the game ended in a 4-1 defeat.

7 a side tournament

The Ravens put out a smaller squad for the Sandhurst 7 a side tournament.
In the quailifying round the boys did well and managed to get through to the plate quarter final where they were beaten on penalties.
The first match started lively with both teams creating chances . Unfortunately Burghfield created a well worked goal and Rudridge ran out of time to equalise. (Game ended 1-0 lost)
The second match was end to end with both sides creating chances. Ravens scored first after good work by James M. A shot by Tom H was put in on the rebound by James E .Harriers equalised soon after with a good strike into the top corner. Tom B gave Ravens the lead again after a short corner and we hung on to win 2-1.
Game three saw early pressure lead to a well saved shot from Tom H. Later a shot from Tom B went wide and despite hard work by all the boys we ended with a 0-0 draw.
Game 4 started with great play by Rudridge which led to a number of saves by Sandhurst. The best coming from a shot by Tom B. Again Rudridge had the best of the action but ended with a draw 0-0.
The final game of the qualifying round saw Whitegrove get the first score. Good defending by Ryan at the back helped keep them out but Whitegrove managed to sneak another goal before the end. Game ended 2-0 to Whitegrove
All this effort in the qualifying round earned the boys a quarter final spot in the plate competition,. Rudridge were up against Bracknell and were well matched. James M clashed with their goalie after chasing a through ball.Bracknell got through the back and scored the first goal . Tom H was taken down outside the box and from the resulting free kick James M scored a beautiful goal in the top corner. Luke saved a good effort from Bracknell in the closing minutes and the game ended 1-1.
The game went to pens and Bracknell managed to convert their two and go through to the semis.
All the boys did well and earned their medals that were presented to them by Graham at the end.
The only incident during the competition was when the Chairman was caught supporting Bracknell in the plate qtr final. He was quickly reprimanded by Kirsty and after a quick discussion it was decided that no further action was necessary

Rudridge Ravens 1 - 2 Fleet Spurs (League)

Our first pre-season match of this campaign for victory started in perfect conditions. The cool overcast conditions were appreciated by the boys and parents for our first game on a full sized pitch. The pre-match nerves were evident as Graham and Pete organised the team prior to kick off. According to Christine, Graham was so nervous be couldn't eat his rice crispies. (The first time this has happened in 15 years!)

Rudridge started brightly, attacking down the left through Josh, Arron, and George. Early pressure forced corners which kept Spurs pinned in there own half. A perfect through pass from Robert created the first scoring opportunity for Tom B who took his chance accordingly, lobbing the goal keeper for our fist goal. Immediately Spurs fought back and only a well timed tackle from George kept Spurs out. Graham shouted encouragement (above the noise of the traffic) from the sidelines as Rudridge adapted to the offside rules.

The end of the first quarter brought the first chance to change the team, James, Tom R and Josh were replaced by Tom H, Ramps and Dan. Rudridge started the second quarter well with a determined attack down the out side through Dan and Tom B which lead to James pushing the ball over the bar with a header. Mike Murphy found it difficult to move from the same spot as linesman because of his lack of footwear. The dad's resourcefully agreed to club together to buy him a pair of flip flops for future matches. The end of the first half saw more rotation, George went into goal replacing Alex who had made some crucial saves. The begriming of the second half brought domestic difficulties on the touchline caused by over exuberant fathers calling out in the ears of their wives. Spurs came back with a goal from a well worked move from the edge of the box. The Ravens showed character in their attempt to pull back the lead. However despite this great effort the Spurs scored again, which proved to be the winning goal. However overall, it was an enjoyable match to watch and all the boys deserve great credit for their effort and commitment in their pursuit of conquest in their first 11 a side match. Effort award went to Alex and MoM went to James. Despite the presence of numerous journalists I managed to get a quote from Graham, at the end of the match, " I was chuffed to bits." We look forward to the next match.
